96f0a2e3ea firmware: Bring back FW_TEXT_START as an optional parameter
Bring back FW_TEXT_START as an optional parameter to allow users
explicitly specify compile time address for loading debug symbols.
When not specified, the FW_TEXT_START is assumed to be 0.

7227cddcb4 firmware: Add relocatable FW_JUMP_ADDR and FW_JUMP_FDT_ADDR
If FW_PIC=y is defined, the fw_jump.bin will be broken if
FW_TEXT_START is wrong. This is not the desired behavior.

Add two new variables to identify relocatable jump address:
FW_JUMP_OFFSET and FW_JUMP_FDT_ADDR. To keep the existing
ABI, FW_JUMP_ADDR and FW_JUMP_FDT_ADDR is prefered if they
are defined.

09ad811ec4 firmware: Only default FW_PIC to y if supported
Bare-metal GNU ld does not support PIE, so if using it this will result
in a failure to build. Instead, default to FW_PIC=n if not supported.
Note that an explicit FW_PIC=y is not overridden, to ensure the build
fails rather than silently producing a position-dependent binary.

a3d328ae33 firmware: Explicitly pass -pie to the linker, not just the driver
When using Clang with a bare-metal triple, -pie does not get passed to
the linker as it's not normally a thing that makes sense, unlike GCC
which will unconditionally forward it on and potentially result in a
linker error. However, LLD does support it, and manually forwarding it
on works as desired, so do so to fully support FW_PIC with Clang and
LLD.

0f20e8adcf firmware: Support position independent execution
Enable OpenSBI to support position independent execution. Because the
position independent code will cause an additional GOT reference when
accessing the global variables, it will reduce performance a bit. Therefore,
the position independent execution is disabled by default. Users can
through specifying "FW_PIC=y" on the make command to enable this feature.

In theory, after enabling position-independent execution, the OpenSBI
can run at arbitrary address with appropriate alignment. Therefore, the
original relocation mechanism will be skipped. In other words, OpenSBI will
directly run at the load address without any code movement.

9c07c513aa firmware: Remove FW_PAYLOAD_FDT_PATH compile-time option
The FW_PAYLOAD_FDT_PATH compile-time option is replaced by
FW_FDT_PATH compile-time option which is more flexible and

This patch removes FW_PAYLOAD_FDT_PATH and updates related

bae54f7645 firmware: Add fw_dynamic firmware
This patch provides first-cut implementation of fw_dynamic firmware.

As compared to fw_jump and fw_payload, the fw_dynamic obtains next
address, next mode and OpenSBI options from struct fw_dynamic_info.

The previous booting stage can create struct fw_dynamic_info in memory
and pass address of struct fw_dynamic_info in 'a2' register. Also, the
struct fw_dynamic_info has versioning as well so changes to the struct
fw_dynamic_info can be done in a backward compatible manner.

54f31e8209 TOP: Allow building platform out-of-tree
This patch extends our current build-system for building platform
sources which are not part of OpenSBI sources.

For example:

Let's say we have out-of-tree ABC platform sources. We place these
sources under <XYZ>/ABC directory along with its config.mk and
objects.mk.

To build out-of-tree ABC platform from OpenSBI directory:
$ make PLATFORM_DIR=<XYZ>/ABC
OR
$ make PLATFORM_DIR=<XYZ> PLATFORM=ABC

To build out-of-tree ABC platform from <XYZ>/ABC directory:
$ make PLATFORM_DIR=<XYZ>/ABC -C <path_to_opensbi>
OR
$ make PLATFORM_DIR=<XYZ> PLATFORM=ABC -C <path_to_opensbi>

0df8269477 Makefile: Add support for device tree compilation
Add rules to compile dts files into dtb files using the device tree
compiler (dtc). A platform can specify the DTS file to compile using
the platform-dtb-y variable. The flattened device tree binary file to be
used for building the final polatform firmware can be specified using
the new FW_PAYLOAD_FDT firmware configuration option to point to the
automatically compiled FDT file. Using the existing FW_PAYLOAD_FDT_PATH
configuration option is still possible and will take precedence over
the FW_PAYLOAD_FDT definition.

ac3041f4e9 build: Introduce FW_PAYLOAD_ALIGN
The firmware payload offset defined by FW_PAYLOAD_OFFSET must
specify a value large enough so the the payload does not overlap
with the base firmware data, bss and text. For platforms without
any strong requirement on the payload address, introduce the
FW_PAYLOAD_ALIGN build parameter to automatically place the payload
right after the base firmware at an address aligned with the defined
value.

Either FW_PAYLOAD_OFFSET or FW_PAYLOAD_ALIGN should be defined by a
platform configuration. If both FW_PAYLOAD_OFFSET and FW_PAYLOAD_ALIGN
are defined by a platform, FW_PAYLOAD_OFFSET has precedence and is
used for building the final firmawre image.

Using FW_PAYLOAD_ALIGN=4096 with the Kendryte platform rather than
the abitrary FW_PAYLOAD_OFFSET=0x10000 value reduces the final
firmware image size by about 20KB.

Add a description of the FW_PAYLOAD_ALIGN configuration parameter in the
fw_payload documentation file as well. And while at it, also fix
various grammar and style issues in that file..
